Historically, schools have been considered safe centers of learning and growth. However, natural disasters, violence, and medical crises have revealed vulnerabilities that require structured preparation for pediatric emergencies. Law No. 13,722 of 2018, known as the Lucas Law, requires first aid training in Brazilian schools to ensure child safety. This study examines how nurses can contribute to school safety and the well-being of children and pre-adolescents. The research is an integrative review, using data collected between 2018 and 2023 in databases such as the Virtual Health Library (VHL), SciELO, Portal Capes, and Google Scholar. The data collected covers the period from 2018 to 2023. To achieve this objective, this work is structured into several sections that address the following topics: emphasizing the importance of training and preparation for professionals working in the school environment, highlighting the need for training in protocols; understand the crucial role of nursing in schools in promoting first aid knowledge, especially in preventive measures aimed at preventing alarming results in situations of imminent risk; interprofessional collaboration, examples of best practices and the long-term effects of nursing interventions. Considering all the factors examined in this study, it can be concluded that the presence of a health professional, particularly a nurse, in the school environment as an educator and health advocate is fundamental to forming responsible citizens in our society.
