Abstract

Misogyny and sexism have deep roots. This study investigates misogyny in the world of video games by analyzing the experiences of female players in online environments. Using a qualitative methodology with interviews and analysis of data from popular games, this research explores how gender biases manifest and affect female players. The findings reveal that, despite social changes, misogyny persists in gaming communities – exacerbated by male-dominated power dynamics and stereotypes. It concludes that understanding these experiences, as well as reforming practices and cultures in virtual spaces, is essential to promoting inclusion.
