Abstract

Compassion Fatigue (CF) is a complex phenomenon that leads to psychoemotional burnout, commonly associated with healthcare professionals working in palliative care. The aim of this study was to identify the factors related to CF, mapping its triggers and impacts on the well-being and performance of healthcare providers. A scoping review was conducted, guided by the question: what are the main triggering factors and symptoms of CF among healthcare professionals in palliative care? The “PCC” strategy (population, concept, and context) and relevant descriptors were used. The results revealed that prolonged exposure to patient suffering, lack of emotional support, and lack of control over work hours and self-care are critical factors in CF development. This study provides a foundation for policies and interventions that promote resilience, organizational support, and improved working conditions, focusing on reducing CF and enhancing the quality of care.
